Somatic Sex Therapy & Embodied Counselling
Somatic refers to the lived experience of the body—how emotions, memories, and psychological states are held, expressed, and felt physically. In therapeutic settings, somatic approaches attend to sensation, movement, breath, and awareness as pathways for healing, regulation, and reconnection.
At Body Curious, support is offered primarily in the area of men’s health, while people of all genders and sexual identities are warmly welcomed. Sessions integrate body-based sex therapy, counselling, and embodied awareness practices to assist in developing a deeper, more trusting relationship with the body, intimacy, and pleasure.

What is Somatic Sex Therapy?
Somatic Sex Therapy is a body-based therapeutic approach that recognises the body as central to emotional, psychological, and sexual wellbeing. The term somatic refers to the lived experience of the body—how emotions, memories, stress, and trauma are held and expressed physically.
In practice, somatic therapy works with sensation, breath, movement, and awareness, rather than relying solely on talking. This allows patterns that may sit beneath conscious thought to be explored safely and gradually, supporting regulation, integration, and self-connection.
Somatic Sex Therapy is a specialised, trauma-informed form of this work, focused on sexual health, intimacy, and pleasure. Sessions may integrate guided awareness, breath, touch (where appropriate and consented to), and counselling to address the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of sexual experience.
This work may support you in:
Enhancing sexual function, arousal, and desire
Exploring unresolved experiences held in the body
Developing greater intimacy with yourself and others
Building confidence, boundaries, and embodied self-awareness
Whether difficulties are being experienced with erection, libido, orgasm, body image, or anxiety around intimacy, Somatic Sex Therapy offers a supportive and non-judgemental space in which your relationship with sex, your body, and pleasure can be explored at your own pace.
At Body Curious, sessions are guided by a certified Somatic Sex Therapist and Counsellor. The work is collaborative, attuned, and grounded in your personal goals, comfort level, and capacity, with a strong emphasis on consent, choice, and embodied safety.
What is Embodied Counselling?
Embodied Counselling is a therapeutic approach that recognises emotional wellbeing as inseparable from the body. Rather than working solely through conversation, this form of counselling invites awareness of physical sensation, emotion, and thought as interconnected aspects of lived experience.
Sessions are offered as a safe and supportive space in which men may express themselves openly, explore emotional patterns, and work through personal or relational challenges. The process is guided by curiosity, allowing experiences to unfold at a pace that feels manageable and respectful, while supporting balance, insight, and self-understanding.
An embodied counselling journey draws upon the body’s innate wisdom, gently integrating it with cognitive and emotional awareness. Attention may be given to sensations, posture, breath, and felt responses, alongside reflection and dialogue. Through this integrated exploration, previously unseen or unacknowledged aspects of experience may come into view, supporting healing, emotional regulation, and a deeper sense of connection with self.
Whether emotional difficulty is being navigated, past experiences are seeking integration, or personal growth is being explored, embodied counselling offers a grounded and compassionate pathway. The work is less about fixing or analysing, and more about being present with what is here—allowing insight, resilience, and authenticity to emerge naturally over time.

Vacuum Therapy & the Vacurect™ System
A Personal Recommendation by Jonn Close
Somatic Sex Therapist | Counsellor | Men's Health Advocate | Prostate Cancer Survivor
As a Somatic Sex Therapist and survivor of prostate cancer, I’ve explored a wide range of vacuum erection devices. Most provide limited benefits beyond enhancing sensation, and many are built around outdated ideas of enlargement rather than focusing on what men truly need—rehabilitation, support, and confidence during recovery.
However, my journey through a radical prostatectomy led me to discover the Vacurect™ Erection Enhancement System, and the results have been truly outstanding.
In my experience, the Vacurect does more than help achieve erections—it plays a vital role in restoring neural pathways, rebuilding confidence, and re-establishing pleasure after surgery. When used in conjunction with somatic body-based practices, it becomes a powerful and holistic tool for rehabilitating sexual function, intimacy, and embodied wellbeing.
This recommendation is supported by my medical team, including Dr Gordon O’Neill (Urologist), as well as the Luke - Physiotherapist and Russell Parbury - Cancer Nurse Herzog at the St Vincent’s NELUNE Men’s Health Centre, part of the Kinghorn Cancer Centre, Sydney.
